‘He’s like an artist’: Marcel Desailly is blown away by the Chelsea player despite defeat by West Ham

Marcel Desailly says Carney Chukwuemeka was “like an artist” in Chelsea’s 3-1 defeat by David Moyes’ West Ham United on Sunday.

The 19-year-old scored Chelsea’s only goal of the game as they suffered a deserved defeat to their London rivals, who were down to ten men midway through the second half.

First it was West Ham who opened the scoring before Carney Chukwuemeka showed off his dancing skills and, to the delight of Desailly, who described him as ‘clinical’, scored his first senior goal Premier League Productions (8/20/23 at 5:30 p.m.).

It was a moment Chukwuemeka will long remember because after signing from Aston Villa last summer, he found life at Stamford Bridge difficult, including working under four managers.

Just before half-time the England Under-21 international fell injured and was unable to continue with the score tied before the Hammers defeated Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

A point from two games isn’t the start Pochettino would have liked and Desailly raves about the club’s youthful star.

“I like Carney Chukwuemeka because he’s like an artist who comes on stage,” Desailly said.

“He has the ball. Now is my moment. Seem. You see the dribbling. He’s sure of what he’s going to do and he’s clinical. I love it.”

The game changed after Chukwuemeka came on

Pochettino was unable to come on at half-time and Chukwuemeka was replaced by Mykhailo Mudryk, caught in January.

This ability of Chukwuemeka to carry the ball, including the bravery he shows when taking the ball in tricky situations, is what Chelsea missed and West Ham pounced on.

That’s four points in two games for the Hammers after selling Declan Rice and one point for Chelsea after spending over £300m this summer alone.
