Alan Shearer reckons Tottenham Hotspur, Evan Ferguson, Brighton and Hove Albion will leave transfer target in ’12 to 18 months’
The 18-year-old scored a hat-trick at the weekend as Roberto De Zerbis Brighton beat Newcastle United 3-1 – Martin Keown previously compared him to Erling Haaland.
The youngest player in English football history to score a hat-trick was Shearer himself for Southampton and he described Evan Ferguson as a “special talent”, he said Premier League Productions (8/2/23 at 7:30 p.m.).
The last time Ferguson dominated the Premier League he won trophy after trophy as manager of Manchester United.
And you’d think that if the new Ferguson keeps scoring as many goals as people think possible, then he too will win trophy after trophy throughout his career.
However, Shearer knows a top scorer when he sees one and he was full of praise for the player who has “everything” in his game.
“What a day for Ferguson,” Shearer said. “A hat-trick at 18. How many players have we had to leave Brighton to make a lot of money? Something similar could happen to him in 12 to 18 months.
“He’s a special talent. You could already see that he has everything you need to be at the highest level. I love its balance. I like the way he breaks up. He is intelligent. For an 18-year-old, it’s the understanding he has for the role. He looks fantastic.”
Tottenham’s interest in Ferguson
After a certain Harry Kane left, transfer rumors swirled that Spurs were keen to sign Ferguson, with Ange Postecoglou apparently a fan of the player.
The comparisons are obvious and Ferguson is a player who would do well in Postecoglou’s revamped attacking system.
But while Shearer reckons Ferguson will leave, it’s obvious Brighton would likely ask in excess of £100m for the player.
Would someone like Daniel Levy be willing to shell out that kind of money for the Irishman? It wouldn’t be a surprise if Spurs fans had doubts.
