Heroic Alaskan woman hops opossum off Brooklyn bar

Did you hear the one about the possum that walks into a bar – and is possessed by an Alaskan woman?
A brave Up North girl came to the rescue of New York’s revelers last week after heroically ‘hopping’ an intervening possum out of a Brooklyn bar. A video of the impromptu animal controller’s good deed is now going viral on Instagram, with city dwellers praising her pest-handling skills.
“I think it was just instinctive,” Sara Fulton – who goes by @Sarakalee on Instagram – told NBC New York of handling the scruffy client. “I’m from Alaska and used to go camping with black bears that hung out at my campsite.”
This now-viral rap callion wandered into Temkin’s Bar in Greenpoint last Thursday night, sending the patrons panicking.
Fulton painted the scene, describing, “I was outside the bar with my friend, the door was open, and then all of a sudden we saw this animal running in, and we were looking at each other, and we were just like, ‘Was that a dog? Is that a rat?’ “

“We both looked at each other and were like, ‘That was too big for a rat! It has to be a possum,’” recalled the Last Frontier native.
In the stunning footage posted to her Instagram, captioned “I did that,” bar patrons can be heard screaming as the possum enters the store and darts under a table. Then Fulton comes to the rescue.
“Hold the camera — I’m from Alaska,” she explains, before calmly reaching down and grabbing the furry intruder with her bare hand. The confident girl then nonchalantly strolls to the door while holding the animal by the scruff like a naughty cat while the bar patrons look on in awe.

The saga ends with the lone hero dumping the possum outside next to a garbage bag a la Patrick Swayze’s character in Roadhouse.
“I just walked up to him and said, ‘Hey, I know you’re scared,'” the possum whisperer recalled. “And I was like, ‘Okay, I think I’m just going to pull you off and get you out because that would be the least painful thing for you.’ “

While the marsupial is several times larger than the average New York City rat, it didn’t phase Fulton, who was used to being around large animals at all times, including a moose, which she said he did used to live in her backyard.
Needless to say, her heroism resonated with bar patrons, who reportedly bought her tons of free drinks as a reward for saving the day.
“Everyone bought her so many rounds that it became a party afterward,” bartender Rachel Bessemer said.

Fulton also became a topic of conversation on Instagram, with one awed commenter writing, “You’re brave I would definitely have run.”
“You should drink free everywhere in Greenpoint forever,” gushed another.
A newfound fan wrote: “I want to nominate this Alaskan woman who removes a possum from a bar in Greenpoint while Led Zeppelin blares as today’s @david_j_roth New Yorker Of Distinction.”
Meanwhile, popular Instagram account Greenpointers reshared the clip with the caption, “This lady doesn’t play.”

Despite her brave act, Fulton doesn’t think she’s a heroine.
“They’re like, ‘You’re a hero, you’re a celebrity.’ I’m like what? No,” said the Verminator. “To me, it’s just a wild animal. But I have to realize that I’m not in Alaska, and that’s not something you see every day.”
