‘He wants to leave’: The £20m rival says the 25-year-old wants out from West Ham after being told

Callum Wilson was shocked to hear West Ham United have turned down “a £70m offer from Manchester City” for Lucas Paqueta.

The Newcastle United striker was unaware of Manchester City’s interest in the Brazil international and now believes he wants to join the treble winner, he said Footballer’s Football Podcast.

Lucas Paqueta, although slow to start, was a key figure in West Ham United’s Europa Conference League win last season.

But with that comes close scrutiny and a look at the price as Paqueta is now keen on securing the transfer if both clubs can agree on a deal.

It’s the last thing someone like David Moyes wants to hear, having already lost Declan Rice for a club-record fee this summer and doesn’t need another key player heading for the exit.

Nonetheless, as Wilson was apparently unaware of these Paqueta rumours, this is where the £20million star’s star comes in (Sky Sports) reacted to everything when told about it.

“Of the?” asked Wilson on claims West Ham turned down a rejected £70m bid for Paqueta. “Oh wow,” he added when told it was Manchester City.

“How much did you buy it for? (£52m replied Mikhail Antonio) That’s not a big win. If you are a businessman, profit is not big, you probably want more.

“However, if I’m Paqueta and £70m come in and that’s a good offer, you’ve signed me for £52m, you’re making £80m with me and I’ve got the champions who want to sign me.” He obviously wants to go, right?!”

Can West Ham hold Paqueta?

Despite the English champions, European champions and most recently UEFA Super Cup winners all hailing their talents, it hasn’t resulted in Paqueta doing anything to anger his fan base.

West Ham clinched a point in the season’s opening weekend when they recorded a 1-1 draw with Bournemouth and Paqueta was in the starting XI.

That’s a positive for the Hammers and they’re hoping that if Man City can’t come up with money for the 25-year-old there’s a chance they’ll keep him.
