Harry Styles recruited his British colleague James Corden to help him shoot a music video for his new song “Daylight” – but they were on a tight budget.
The pair drove the streets of Brooklyn for part of Thursday’s episode of “The Late Late Show With James Corden,” asking random people to help them with their three-hour DIY project.
Styles, 28, and Corden, 43, spent just $300 on the video and started the show knocking on random doors to find someone to let them use their apartment.
“I thought this would be easier Harry, I have to be honest – I thought your face would open a lot of doors,” Corden said while going through the town’s search for a location.
The talk show host and “Harry’s House” singer found help from Brooklyn residents Isabel, Caroline, Hadley and Sydney.
The quartet share a sun-drenched pad that looked like the perfect setting for shooting. The “Carpool Karaoke” host then took a tour of the apartment to develop his vision for the music video and saw that one of the girls was a big fan of the “Dunkirk” star.
Her room was complete with her own Styles snapshot collage, a One Direction book and a photo of crooner “Watermelon Sugar” dressed as Harry Potter.
“We have to hide all this because I’m worried you’re a psychopath,” he announced to her. “Harry, don’t come in here!”
Corden – who creatively led the project – shook hands with the girls alongside Styles. “Don’t treat him like Harry Styles, treat him like someone named Chris,” the Cats star quipped.
Other shots showed Styles wearing his clothes in a bathtub, throwing a house party and wearing a green screen suit. Part of the video showed the former boy band member making an impression of Mick Jagger. In another scene, Styles nibbled on a pizza while cuddling a zebra.
While Styles sat in the bathroom waiting for his cue to sing his heart out, his co-worker fiddled with the lights and remarked, “I want this to be as sexy as f—!”
He continued, “Okay, listen, you’re in the bath. You are fully clothed. People will think there is a deeper meaning. There is not any. But you think there is. And show us that it exists. But not so much.”
Styles then joked in a scene from the segment, “I can’t stress that enough. That was all James’ idea. I was in [‘Dunkirk’], a Christopher Nolan film! This is my dressing room now. Should we just scrap it? Is it too late to just do a ‘carpool karaoke’?”
Variety spoke to the four housemates before the show aired Thursday, and they fangirled about Styles and the late-night talk show.
“If we only knew [they were stopping by] we would have at least brushed our hair!” she called back collectively, giddy.
