He’s seen better days.
Happy Days star Anson Williams has lost his run for mayor in California in a squeaker.
Best known for his role as Potsie on the ’70s and ’80s sitcom, Williams was defeated by Ojai Mayor Betsy Stix by 42 votes.
The Ventura County Court Clerk confirmed the election results Wednesday after a recount showed Stix won re-election by 1,823 votes to Williams’ 1,781.
The Post reached out to Stix and Williams for comment.
The 73-year-old actor-turned-TV show director ran on a platform for environmental and transport safety, citing concerns about the quality of life for residents of the coastal community.
His goals included reducing Ojai’s carbon footprint by promoting incentives to promote the use of economical and renewable energy; and the construction of a new pickleball facility in Soule Park.
After announcing his candidacy for mayor over the summer, Williams told the Hollywood Reporter he wouldn’t rely heavily on his A-list connections to lead him to victory.
“I had deep, deep friendships with [them] for more than 40 years. They would help and I would love that because we are family. But I don’t want to make that one [Hollywood campaign] because it goes against the heart of the community,” he said of his Happy Days co-stars.
He said his Hollywood roots would come in handy if chosen because he has experience directing “challenging situations with people” and handling “big budgets.”
“When you’re directing television shows, you’re dealing with millions of dollars for a show, and you’ve got to do this thing with 80 department heads who like and dislike each other and keep it on budget, and you’ve got to make it sure, that everyone gets along and the actors come out of the trailers,” he said. “It’s a huge task and a huge responsibility.”
