Halle Berry Sets Her ‘Catwoman’ Razzie Award ‘On Fire’

In 2002, Halle Berry made history: With her turn in the TV series Monster’s Ball, she became the first Black woman to win the Academy Award for Best Actress. Three years later, she received a more questionable trophy: Worst Actress at the Razzie Awards for 2004 Catwoman. Berry even personally collected it, just like Tom Green did for the five awards he won Freddy Got Fingered. In a recent interview for her directorial debut, Bruises, the actress shared about why she showed up – and what she did with the trophy afterwards.

Berry talk to Vanity Fair (as caught by The Hollywood Reporter) about her career, and that night, as she walked onto the stage, holding an Oscar in her hand and the newer, worse in the other.

“I went to Razzie [Awards] because I feel like we all take ourselves very seriously,” she said. “If we get an award, if we get an Oscar, somehow we’re made to feel we’re somehow better than everyone else, but we really aren’t. You’ve just been chosen that year by your peers, and you’ve been recognized for doing what they see as outstanding work. ”

She even acted defiantly in her stride. “If you find yourself facing a Razzie, does that mean you’re the worst actor ever? Probably not,” she said. “You were just hit by a group of people who might have made you angry that year.”

Besides, it’s a good expression of humility. Berry explained: “If I could show up to accept an Oscar while you were honoring me, I could definitely show up to collect a Razzie when you said, come on, but do better. again. “I always learned that if you can’t be a good loser, you don’t deserve to be a good winner. So I went there and made fun of myself.”

All in all, she doesn’t regret her passing, even though this award doesn’t last much longer in this world. “I had a great time and then I burned that thing,” she said.

Berry has opened about Catwoman before, said that she don’t regret doing it and that, cinema sucks or not, it was one of her higher-paying days. Not that she will ever back to role à is the cast of the next alumni Spiderman. Besides, she anyway about to get another trophy.
