Hakeem Jeffries was denounced as an “election denier” after the House Dems elected him leader

Republicans on Wednesday blasted newly-elected Democratic leader of the House Rep. Hakeem Jeffries for repeatedly denying the legitimacy of former President Donald Trump’s 2016 election.
The social media offensive came from both GOP lawmakers and the Republican National Committee shortly after Jeffries was elevated to the lower chamber as his party’s leader.
“Hakeem Jeffries called the 2016 election ILLEGITIMAT. Why are the Democrats electing a COUNTERPARTY as party leader? Where is the media outrage that Jeffries is calling a THREAT to democracy?” Representative Ronny Jackson (R-Tenn.) said in a tweet Wednesday.
RNC staffer Kyle Martinsen tweeted a thread in which Jeffries “disputed election results” eight times.
Martinsen’s thread included tweets from Jeffries claiming congressional elections were “stolen by rogue Republican agents,” claiming the GOP defrauded by collusion with Russia in 2016, and saying that a “cloud of illegitimacy” hung over the White House of Trump hung.
In a 2018 tweet, Jeffries wrote, “The more we learn about the 2016 election, the MORE ILLEGAL it’s becoming.”
“America deserves to know if we have a FAKE President in the Oval Office,” added the new House Democrat leader.
Jeffries, 52, won an uncontested election Wednesday to replace Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) as House Democrat leader. He became the first African American elected to the post.

On January 3, when the new Congress convenes, Jeffries will be officially named House Minority Leader.
“Leadership is incredibly important,” Jeffries said in a statement following his election victory on Wednesday. “When we, as diverse leaders, are given the opportunity to serve in important positions, the most meaningful thing we can do in this space is do an incredibly good job.”
