Gwendoline Christie says Netflix’s Wednesday reel is ‘the first time I’ve felt beautiful on screen’

Gwendoline Christie has spoken about how the hair and makeup team work on the Netflix hit series Wednesday made her feel “beautiful” on screen for the first time.

British actor best known for portraying Brienne of Tarth in game of Thronesplays Nevermore leading lady Larissa Weems in the new Addams Family adaptation.

Speak with Weekly entertainment Regarding the series, Christie thanked American costume designer Colleen Atwood for her work on the character.

“It’s the first time I’ve felt beautiful on screen,” she said.

“Colleen Atwood is a legend in her own right, and what she does comes close to sorcery in terms of transfiguration. It is an honor of my life to work with Colleen and with Tim [Burton].”

The actor continued, “The way she made me feel was made my body feel celebrated and beautiful. I never felt like I was hiding anything or ashamed. She made me feel amazing.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Christie revealed that Burton had told her to “do whatever she wants with the character,” which she described as “an incredible opportunity from this great master of movies.”

Speak with diversity Speaking on the series, showrunners Alfred Gough and Miles Millar spoke about how Christie dealt with the news of her character’s death at the end of season one.

Wednesday has received mixed reviews from critics — including a critical two-star review from The Independent‘s Nick Hilton – but was warmly received by viewers as his Rotten Tomatoes score sets a milestone for Addams Family adaptations.

Wednesday is now available to stream on Netflix.
