Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special unveils the fate of a forgotten Marvel character

A throwaway line in That Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special has revealed the fate of a minor MCU character.

The special, which will be released on Disney Plus on Friday, November 25, is set after the events of Thor: Love and Thunder and sees Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel reprise their roles Guardians of the Galaxy.

James Gunn, who directed the first two films in the Guardians of the Galaxy series and the upcoming one volume 3returned to headline the celebratory special.

Minor spoilers follow for that Guardians of the Galaxy Christmas Special…

The line in question concerns Taneleer Tivan, the ruthless alien also known as the Collector, residing on the severed Celestial Head known as Knowhere.

The Collector was briefly seen in the end credits scene in 2013 Thor: The Dark Worldportrayed by Benicio del Toro.

Del Toro would reprise the role in 2014 in a larger capacity Guardians of the Galaxyand later in 2018 Avengers: Infinity War.

in the Infinite Warthe characters visit the Collector’s Base on Knowhere and the Collector was seen trapped in one of his own cages.

However, this turned out to be an illusion created by Thanos (Josh Brolin), leaving del Toro’s character’s fate unknown…until now.

While the character doesn’t actually appear in the Guardians of the Galaxy Christmas Specialhis post-Avengers destiny is alluded to in a line spoken by Nebula (Karen Gillan).

“Since we bought Knowhere from The Collector, we don’t have time for trivial things like Christmas,” she notes.

It’s possible that this plot point will be explored further in the future Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3due to hit cinemas next year.
