Grimes on secret child and ‘flowing relationship’ with Elon Musk

They are a modern thermonuclear family.
Elon Musk and Grimes quietly welcomed a baby Girls via a December surrogate, Vanity Fair revealed in a cover story published Thursday. And if she didn’t start crying mid-interview, the world would never know Exa Dark Sideræl Muskor Y for short, even existed.
Reporter Devin Gordon writes that he heard wails from upstairs at Grimes’ home in Austin, Texas. Knowing that their son was traveling with Musk with his father, he asked about the noise.
“It’s not my place to talk about these things,” Grimes, who at 33 is 17 years younger than Musk, initially told the magazine. “Whatever’s going on with family stuff, I just feel like kids need to stay out of it,” she said, though she eventually confirmed there was a new baby: “She’s got a little bit of colic, too.”

Of course, the second offspring of the richest man in the world could not have a simple nickname. Grimes, née Claire Boucher, said Y’s first name was based on the supercomputing term exaFLOPS, which refers to exascale computing with high floating-point operations per second. Translation: something that can do 1 trillion things per second. Her first middle name, Dark, Grimes told the magazine, refers to “the unknown. People fear it, but it’s actually the absence of photons. Dark matter is the beautiful mystery of our universe.”
And Sideræl, she said, is a more “elven” way of spelling sidereal, an astrological term, as well as a homage to her favorite Lord of the Rings character, Galadriel. It’s a name with the potential to annoy or confuse anyone on the internet. When Musk confirmed big brother X’s birth name, X Æ A-12, in May 2020, critics questioned whether they gave birth to a human or a human USB cable.
In spite of after separation in September 2021Grimes confirmed that she and Musk are amicable co-parents as “synthetic companions.”

“I would probably call him my boyfriend, but we’re very changeable. We live in separate houses. We are best friends. We see each other all the time,” Grimes told Vanity Fair.
And apparently they live in separate realities too. Grimes says her latest album, Book 1, was inspired by Musk’s theory that it was a “simulation.”
“We keep having this conversation where E’s like, ‘Are you real? Or are we living in my memory and you’re like a synthesized companion created to be my companion here?'” she told the magazine.
Grimes, who also appears to have questioned her own reality, believes she was “engineered” to be the “perfect companion” for the Tesla co-founder, adding that she studied both astrophysics and neuroscience.

“We just have our own thing going, and I don’t expect other people to understand it,” Grimes said.
“This is the best thing ever… We just have to be free.”
Musk, who began his romance with the “Genesis” singer in 2018, told Time last fall that he and Grimes are “semi-separated” due to their busy work schedules and live in two different cities (Grimes previously lived in Los Angeles ). However, Grimes reportedly moved back to Austin full-time in December around the birth of her daughter, though she has her own residency.
Musk suggested Grimes was a bit too messy for his liking, and told Vanity Fair from his Tesla in an interview that he likes things “pretty neat.” They also have different tastes in aesthetics.

“I just don’t like when things are messy and anime,” Musk told the magazine.
He also claims that he could one day become a parent from a great distance.
“I said before she was pregnant that I was going to Mars,” Musk told Vanity Fair.
Still, the musician said she and Musk want “at least three or four” more children.

In the article, Grimes reveals that she’s uncomfortable with her newfound wealth as Musk’s co-parent, and acknowledges there was a time when she was “so far left,” which refers to her political stance. She said she “went through a period of life without currency, living outside” while attending McGill University in Montreal.
“I mean, when people say I’m a class traitor, that’s not a … inaccurate description,” Grimes said in the interview. “I was deeply of the far left and converted to what was essentially a capitalist Democrat. A lot of people are understandably upset.”
“I really feel caught between two worlds,” Grimes added.
However, Musk doesn’t exactly flaunt his wealth. “Like brother didn’t even get a new mattress.”
“Bro doesn’t live like a billionaire,” Grimes said. “Bro sometimes lives below the poverty line. To the point where I was like, ‘Can’t we live in a very insecure $40,000 house? Where the neighbors are filming us and there’s no security and I’m eating peanut butter for eight days straight?’”
But it looks like the days of peanut butter are over.
On Thursday, just hours after the article was published, Grimes clarified the status of her love life with Musktweeted, “Me and E have broken up *again* since writing this haha but he’s my best friend and the love of my life.”
