‘Great move for him’: Hasselbaink was impressed by Tottenham’s ‘right player’ transfer call

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has explained that James Maddison is a “true Tottenham player” after joining the London club this summer.

The former Premier League striker is part of Gareth Southgate’s England coaching staff and has seen first-hand what James Maddison is all about.

For years Tottenham have been crying out for a player of his ilk and now Hasselbaink describes him as “a very smart” and “decent player”, as he put it Premier League Productions.

That was evident on his debut when he took on the creative role for Ange Postecoglou’s revamped squad.

For some, Maddison’s move to Spurs was a long-term affair, with Hoddle claiming it was three years too late.

Anyway, he’s in the building now as Hasselbaink praised the qualities he has at his feet.

“James Maddison is a real player,” said Hasselbaink. “Very smart. Really good between the lines. I’m really happy to receive the balls in tight areas. Not afraid. Very creative. Can score goals.

“I think a real Spurs player. A little bit about him. Great move for him and a very important year for him.”

Maddison needs a proven goalscorer

It’s a shame for Spurs fans that Harry Kane left at precisely this point as he and Maddison were considered ‘a match made in heaven’.

But Spurs can’t deal with it any longer, their all-time leading scorer at the club is out the door and another all-out striker is needed.

If Spurs can get someone to sing and dance with Maddison this summer, there’s no doubt they’ll have a rather deadly and devastating partnership.

Great move for him post: Hasselbaink delighted with Tottenham’s ‘right player’ transfer call, first appeared on HITC.
