A long hot summer turns deadly Grantchester Season 7. New episodes of the British mystery series will air on PBS from July 2022. Here’s what we know about the new season.
Grantchester Season 7 premieres July 10 on PBS
Grantchester Season 7 premieres Sunday, July 10 at 9 p.m. ET on PBS. The new season, which will consist of six episodes, is set in 1959. Here is the official season summary from British broadcaster ITV:
As Reverend Will Davenport unites happy couples in holy marriage, Detective Inspective Geordie Keating is busy investigating a slew of local murders. With a new decade just around the corner, everyone is grappling with what the future holds, not least Will, but before the 50s transition into the Swinging 60s there are some crimes to be solved and some life-changing decisions to be made that will change life in Grantchester could change forever.
The new season will be a test for Will, says star Tom Brittney
The new season of Grantchester will see Will – played by Tom Brittney – cope with some complications in his private life.
“This series really tests Will’s romantic life and relationships,” Brittney told ITV in an interview ahead of the UK premiere in early 2022. “One person comes into his life and causes a lot of problems because when Will falls in love, he falls he heavy . Then someone else comes along that Will wasn’t expecting and they throw a wrench into the job and he’s faced with a real dilemma of what to do. He has to decide whether to follow his head or follow his heart.”
Meanwhile, Geordie (Robson Green) denies his marriage to Cathy (Kacey Ainsworth) is falling apart. He has moved into the vicarage with Will, leading to an odd couple dynamic between the two friends. Green told ITV While there is humor to the situation, the detective is “a shadow of his former self… the more time he spends with it [Cathy]the more distant they become.”
The new episodes will also feature some shocking developments for Mrs. C (Tessa Peake-Jones). Meanwhile, Leonard (Al Weaver) tries a new career after leaving the priesthood.
More mystery series are coming to PBS in 2022
Grantchester isn’t the only mystery series coming to PBS’s Masterpiece in the coming months.
Make an effort returns on June 19 after a two-year hiatus. In the three-episode eighth season, Morse (Shaun Evans) battles his personal demons while tracking down real-life monsters on the streets of Oxford.
Fault, which premiered in 2021, will also return for a second season, although a specific premiere date has not been announced. Mystery enthusiasts can also look forward to the second season of Van der Walk and Miss Scarlet and the Duke later in 2022. Also unforgettable‘s Nicola Walker stars in a new series entitled Annika. It is already streaming on PBS Passport and will air on PBS in Fall 2022. magpie murders, also premiered in the fall.
