Governor Hogan urges Marylanders to get vaccinated or booster shots after Omicron variant discovered – CBS Baltimore

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (WJZ) – Following the discovery of a new Omicron variant of COVID-19, Governor Larry Hogan on Monday urged Marylanders to get vaccinated against the virus or get a booster shot.

“While there are still many unknowns about the Omicron variant and how it will spread, the most important thing that Marylanders can do is get vaccinated or booster shots,” he said. “It’s the best way to maintain your immunity and protect yourself and your family from serious illness.”

Hogan said he received a press conference from the state’s COVID-19 Response Team Monday morning about the new variant.

“We are closely monitoring the situation and will provide additional public health updates to Marylanders as more information becomes available,” he said.

On November 19, Hogan Extended eligibility for enhanced photography for all residents 18 years of age and older.

Maryland reported 762 new COVID-19 cases on Monday morning, and the state’s positivity rate rose to 4.76%.

As of Monday, the state had administered 9,330,408 doses of the vaccine, including 967,667 booster shots, according to state health department data.

Health officials say 4,084,557 Marylanders are fully immunized against COVID-19.

During the noon press conference, President Joe Biden call on Americans to calm down when scientists around the world study the Omicron variation.

“Sooner or later, we will see cases of this new variant in the United States,” he said. “We will face this new threat, just as we have faced the threats that have come before it.”
