Republicans in the Senate warned the nearly $2 trillion Better Rebuilding Act would be bad for the economy.
During a press conference on Capitol Hill on Tuesday, North Dakota Senator John Hoeven (R) said Democrats had taken the wrong approach and called the legislation a gimmick.
“This is completely the wrong path. People need to understand exactly what’s in this bill, understand these gimmicks, and know that this is not what we need for our economy and our country. We need to get them back policies that support growth, says Hoeven.
Hoeven also said Democratic Party policies discourage people from returning to the workforce. Oklahoma Senator James Lankford (R) also called on the White House, accusing the Biden administration of repeatedly changing the mind of the bill.

“This huge bill is now worth almost $2 trillion, with about $400 billion in additional debt, initially to sustain our economy, then this very hot inflation continues to rise. and now all of a sudden, this is going to help us fight inflation. And now we’re dealing with unemployment problems and then the Democratic Party line turns into, oh, now it’s going to help with the jobs problems. In fact, what’s happening is they’re trying to spend more and tax more, and they’re going to make it even worse,” said Senator Lankford (R-Okla.)
Lankford warned the law would discourage companies from investing and setting up operations in the US in the future. This comes as the administration declares the bill has been fully paid, despite a report by the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) suggesting it would increase the national debt by $160 billion over the next decade.
“Instead of solving problems that Americans care so much about, Democrats are doubling down on bad ideas and then forcing Americans to pay for those bad ideas. Inflation, labor, supply chains, open borders, all these things are very important to the American people but nothing is done beside them. This is something that concerns working families in America,” emphasized Senator John Boozman (R-Ark.)
Meanwhile, Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (DN.Y.) is aiming to pass the legislation by Christmas.
