Google will release a new smartwatch next year to replace Apple Watch, new report says

Google is making a smartwatch to compete with the Apple Watch due out in 2022, according to new reports.

The wearable, codenamed “Rohan,” will have a circular shape with no physical bezel. According to the report, development of the watch has accelerated this year, with many employees outside of the smartwatch team testing the device inside Google.

Fitbit and Google will obviously work more closely together in the future, merging the Fitbit and Wear OS software.

The watch is expected to launch next year, possibly in the spring, but a date has not been set. However, it is expected to be more expensive than the Fitbit, according to The Verge.

Google did not respond to a request for comment The Independent.

However, this device is the only one that gets the latest software updates and prioritizes Samsung’s own services over Google’s.

Facebook is also building its own smartwatch to compete in the space, with reports suggesting it will has two cameras and collects health and fitness data.
