Goldbergs’ Jeff Garlin Responds to Claims of ‘Inappropriate Conduct’

Jeff Garlin has hit back at claims of ‘inappropriate behavior’ on the set of The Goldbergs, and denied he was fired from the show.
The actor, 59, downplayed allegations that he ‘made a verbal and physical pattern of behavior on set that upset people’ from three people who had previously worked on the show.
I said Vanity Fair: ‘Okay. There has been a personnel investigation on me for the past three years. HR came to me three years in a row because of my behavior on set. ‘
Refusing to elaborate on the content, Garlin claimed that if he had said something ‘evil and insulting’ if he had worked at an insurance company, the situation would have been different.
He added: ‘If I, as the star of the show, ask for a bunch of guns and on the set, and I shoot guns every day and I’m a little let loose – to me, that’s an atmosphere. unsafe work.
‘If I threaten people, it’s an unsafe working atmosphere. Nothing happened to me. That’s not who I am. I’m sorry to tell you it’s really no big deal. Unless you want to make a story about political correctness. ‘
He apologizes if people are offended by something he has told them because he is a stand-up comedian, but vehemently denies that he has ever ‘attacked anyone’.
Garlin, who played the gruff father in The Goldbergs as well as starred in Curb Your E’s, also addressed accusations he made people uncomfortable by hugging them, adding: ‘I’m a hugger. .
‘And those were quick hugs, but I didn’t realize someone was feeling the same way – so if you want to write that story, it’s a true story.
‘It pushes them to say something, and I’m willing to respect anyone who says, “Please don’t hug me. I don’t feel comfortable.”
However, he added that HR ‘never said a word to me about hugs,’ but agreed that employees have the right to come see HR if it makes them uncomfortable.
During the lengthy interview, he told the newspaper his mission was to ‘relieve people’s pain’ and the thought that he may have caused it makes him ‘deeply sad.’
Garlin also vehemently denied he was fired from the show, insisting they were ‘trying to come to an agreement’ but added that he would shoot more scenes but would ‘not do any of my silly things. ‘ for ‘respect’.
A Sony spokesperson told the publication: ‘The health of the cast and crew is of paramount importance to us. This is an employment issue and it is being addressed by the human resources and production departments. ‘
