God of War Ragnarok nominations lead the 2022 Game Awards

The number of God of War Ragnarok nominations for The Game Awards 2022 beat out the rest of the competition, including its main competitor for Game of the Year, Elden Ring. Both GoW Ragnarok and Elden Ring share nominations in six categories, but Ragnarok can sneak through with multiple nods in other categories where Elden Ring is absent. The 2022 Game Awards will air December 8, 2022 at 4:30pm PT / 7:30pm ET.
God of War Ragnarok was able to win 9 The Game Awards trophies
Santa Monica Studio took home up to nine wins at The Game Awards for God of War Ragnarok in the following categories:
- game of the year
- Best Action/Adventure
- Innovation in accessibility
- Best game direction
- Best Narrative
- Best score and music
- Best Art Direction
- Best audio
- best performance
For Best Performance, with Christopher Judge voicing Kratos and Sunny Suljic voicing Atreus, Ragnarok actually has two chances to win. In comparison, Elden Ring does not have a nomination in either this category or Innovation in Accessibility. Where Ragnarok competes for Best Action/Adventure, Elden Ring was placed in Best Role-Playing, positioning them as front runners in those categories.
Although momentum for Elden Ring has slowed compared to Ragnarok’s recent release, it still maintains a two-point lead on the PS5 Metacritic Score at 96 versus Ragnarok’s 94. The incredible sales for Elden Ring also cannot be ignored.
