GMB: ‘Chaotic’ Conservative Party ‘crumbling before our eyes’ says David Dimbleby

David Dimbleby condemned the “chaos” engulfing Liz Truss’ Conservative government during an appearance on Good morning Britain on Thursday (6 October).

The veteran broadcaster was interviewed after the Tory party’s annual conference, held in Birmingham earlier this week.

Truss arrived at the conference amid widespread divisions within the party, exacerbated by last month’s release of a “mini-budget” that sent the economy into crisis.

Speak with GMB Hosts Ben Shephard and Kate Garraway told Dimbleby: “It’s messy, isn’t it? I’ve never seen such chaos.

“It’s not just party chaos that’s crumbling before our eyes in the Conservative Party. It’s torn by disagreements. What was going on in Birmingham… unbelievable.”

However, the former question time The presenter added: “It seems to me that these things kind of come and go in politics. I think our politics will calm down at some point. We have issues that all parties acknowledge.”

Although Dimbleby never interviewed Truss, he did host her once question time years before. Shephard asked if she thought he might be a future party leader.

“We thought she was a bit politically confused, and I wasn’t exactly sure what she stood for,” he said.

Dimbleby’s interview came as writer-director Russell T. Davies was reacting to the “strange” similarities between Truss’s conference outfit and Emma Thompson’s fascist Prime Minister’s dress years and years.
