Glastonbury 2022: Billie Eilish Among Artists Condemns US Supreme Court Ruling Roe v Wade

A number of artists performing at Glastonbury 2022 have condemned the overturning of the US Supreme Court ruling on Friday (June 24). Deer vs Wade.

The Republican-controlled Supreme Court yesterday ruled in favor of a Mississippi law banning 15-week abortions while overturning important precedents set by the 1973 decision Deer vs Wade as well as an affirmative decision in the 1992s Planned Parenthood vs. Casey.

During her landmark headline at Glastonbury Festival on Friday (June 24), Billie Eilish addressed the decision, saying it’s a “really dark day for women in America.”

“I’m only going to say this because I can’t bear to think about it any longer right now,” she told the crowd on the festival’s main pyramid stage.

Earlier in the day, fellow US artist Phoebe Bridgers led chants of “F*** the Supreme Court” during her Glastonbury set.

“All these irrelevant old moms trying to tell us what to do with our damn bodies. Fuck it,” she said.

Joe Talbot of British rock band Idles also mentioned the judgment on stage, saying it took the country back to “the Middle Ages”.

Shortly after news of the Supreme Court decision broke, Talbot said, “They just took the laws back to medieval America where they’re just deciding whether or not it should be illegal to have an abortion.

“Long live the open-minded. Long live my mother and long live each and every one of you,” he added, before the band kicked off their song “Mother.”

On Friday (June 24), Billie Eilish became the festival’s youngest solo headliner and delivered a set that garnered critical acclaim The Independent‘s review.
