Girl, 4, forced to drink whiskey, dies; Grandmother, mother imprisoned

Sergeant L’Jean McKneely, a police spokesman, told news outlets that the little girl’s grandmother, Roxanne Record, 53, and mother, Kadjah Record, 29, were arrested Friday, both charged with first-degree murder. It was not known if any of them had a lawyer who could speak for them.
Officers were dispatched to a home in Baton Rouge around 11am Thursday after reports of an unresponsive child. The child, 4-year-old China Record, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
The East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner’s Office said an autopsy revealed acute alcohol poisoning was the cause of death. The little girl had a blood alcohol level of 0.680 percent, more than eight times the 0.08 percent limit for adult driving, authorities said.
During the investigation, detectives said they learned the victim’s grandmother forced her to drink a bottle of alcohol while the mother looked on.
The investigations are ongoing.
