Ghislaine Maxwell is “sincere” and “kind,” says fellow inmate

Ghislaine Maxwell is “sincere and kind” and has offered to teach yoga to fellow inmates, a prison friend wrote to the judge scheduled to sentence the convicted sex trafficker on Tuesday.

Tatiana Venegas, who was detained with Maxwell at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, submitted a handwritten letter in support of her pal, court records revealed. Maxwell, 60, has been held in federal prison since her arrest in July 2020.

“As Ghislane [sic] When Maxwell first arrived at the unit, she introduced herself to everyone with a handshake. ‘Hi, I’m Maxwell,’ she says with a sincere and kind smile,” wrote Venegas, 31. “That surprised us all.”

Within a week of Maxwell’s arrival in prison, “she had volunteered to teach ESL, teach yoga, and help women with their GED,” Venegas said.

The convicted woman’s friend wrote that she felt compelled to write a letter for her because “I think it’s important to know that there are also positive opinions, some of them among inmates in the unit.”

She also said it was important “to bring out the good in people.”

Venegas remains detained at the MDC on narcotics conspiracy charges, records show.

Maxwell was convicted in December of grooming young girls for Jeffrey Epstein to molest between 1994 and 2004.

The disgraced British socialite was placed on suicide watch in prison ahead of her sentencing hearing, but her lawyer said on Saturday she “is not suicidal”.

Harriett Jagger, a wealthy former fashion executive for Vogue and Tatler magazines, will reportedly be the only friend to vouch for her in court.

Maxwell and her lawyers have complained about the conditions of her detention since her arrest, claiming that she was strip searched and was waking up every 15 minutes.

Prosecutors have told the court the former Epstein pal deserves between 30 and 55 years behind bars for her “monstrous” crimes.

Her lawyers have pleaded leniency and asked that she get between four and five years. They have argued that Maxwell is being used as a scapegoat for the government’s inability to prosecute Epstein, who killed himself behind bars in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges.
