Of the 689 votes in the lower house on the bill, 571 voted in favor and 80 against. 38 lawmakers recorded abstentions. The bill, which is being fast-tracked, still needs to be passed by the upper house, which is likely to be done by the end of Friday. A second, more controversial bill that would mandate COVID-19 vaccinations for all is being prepared and could be debated by parliament next month. According to official figures about 69.4% of Germany’s population of 83 million are fully immunized.
