The 38-year-old fighter died after collapsing in the ring on Saturday while taking on Ugandan veteran Hamza Wandera in a fight in Munich, Germany, according to published reports.
“We lost our compatriot Musa Askan Yamak, an Alucra boxer who became European and Asian champion, to a heart attack at a young age,” he said Hasan Turan via Twitter.
Yamak, an undefeated fighter, suffered a heavy punch from Wandera in the second round of the fight, according to published reports, and attempted to get out to the fight in the third round.
But before the round even started, Yamak fell into the ring.
Paramedics rushed to the ring but were unable to revive the light heavyweight boxer as spectators watched in shock.
Yamak was taken to a local hospital and pronounced dead of a heart attack.
The German fighter was undefeated in 75 professional fights. He had an 8-0 record with eight knockouts.
Turkish-born Yamak turned pro in 2017 but rose to popularity after winning the WBFed International title in 2021.
