Gavin and Stacey Star Joanna Page has said she hopes the show will return for a future Christmas special.
The Welsh actor starred alongside Mathew Horne in Ruth Jones and James Corden’s BBC sitcom which originally aired from 2007 to 2010 and returned in 2019 for a one-off celebratory episode.
Appears on Permissive women On Tuesday (December 13), Page said she wasn’t sure about the show’s future, although she “would love to do another one.”
“I honestly have no idea,” Page said. “I’m just like everyone else because they don’t tell us. They don’t tell us anything and I never asked for it.
“I never said, ‘Oh Ruth, do you think you’re going to do another one or will there be more?’ I’m just not that kind of person. I’ve always just thought, we’ll wait and see and if there is, there is, and if there isn’t, there isn’t.”
She continued, “They never told us they were doing anything again, so only when you get a call and they’re like, ‘There’s a special, would you like to do it?'”
Speaking of filming the 2019 Christmas special, Page said, “After filming I thought there’s one more, there has to be one more. We need to find out what Smithy is saying.”
The special ended on a cliffhanger when Nessa (Jones) got on one knee and Smithy (Corden) proposed. The episode cuts off before we can hear his answer.
“But over time I started to think, well, maybe it’s been too long?” Page reasoned.
“Maybe there won’t be another one, which makes me sad because I’d love to do another one. If so, I hope they hurry because we’re all getting old.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Page shared an embarrassing memory of the very first read through for love actuallyin which she appears alongside Martin Freeman.
