Funeral for young Bronx brothers allegedly killed by their mother

The tiny white coffins of the two little Bronx brothers, who are said to have been killed by their mother, were placed side by side at their funeral on Friday – a heartbreaking sight for family and friends who are mourning the “angels”.

Sean Macnair, a neighbour, broke down sobbing as he recalled trying to revive little Daishawn Fleming, 3, who was killed along with his 11-month-old brother Octavius Canada in last month’s horror.

“When I tried to give his life back, I felt like I was ready to give my life,” Macnair said of the tot. “If he was going to die right here, if I could make a deal, I would.

“He was so funny. He was so handsome,” Macnair recalled of the little boy. “I remember when Daishawn got his two little front teeth and I was like, ‘What are you doing?’ He’s standing in the stroller and showing his two teeth.”

The young boys’ mother, Dimone Fleming, 22, allegedly stabbed them and hid their bodies under wet clothing in the bathtub at the family’s apartment at a city homeless shelter.

She felt “suffocated” by one of the boys’ fathers and believed he was “the devil” because of his tattoos, her father told the Post. The boy’s father has denied having any markings to do with Satan.

A cousin speaking at a service at a Gun Hill Road funeral home said of the boys: “Those are two angels gone too soon.”

The unidentified woman urged other mothers to seek help if they are struggling.

“Please pick up the phone and ask if you need any help, just ask. I’m a mother of five children, I can’t imagine that,” said the woman.

The touching service began with a hymn — “Jesus Love the Little Children” — and a reading from the Book of Genesis, before friends and family approached a podium at the front of the room to speak alongside the two caskets.

“All of our hearts are broken today, but we serve a God who is able to heal any broken heart today,” said John Harris, who was introduced as the great-great-great-grandfather of the victims.

A man, who declined to be named, said: “Octavius and Daishawn were the most energetic and happiest kids I’ve ever met.

“Every time I held Octavius, he laughed and smiled. Daishawn always smiled. You couldn’t help but smile yourself.”

A woman named Allie said of Daishawn: “I’m going to miss him so much.

“He was my daughter’s TikTok buddy. He and my son were the same age. They grew together.”

Fleming was initially taken into custody by officers responding to a report of a woman “acting irrationally” and setting things on fire in the apartment’s kitchen.

She was taken to a nearby hospital for a check-up – unbeknownst to officers the boys’ bodies were in the bathtub. A neighbor had told them the baby’s father had them, law enforcement sources said.

Later that evening, police received a second frantic 911 call to the same location from Octavius’ father, Columbus Canada, who reported finding the children’s bodies when he returned to the home.

Law enforcement sources have told The Post that Fleming “made statements about the devil — unusual statements” and that they were investigating whether she believed the boys were “possessed”.

But Keyah Love – who ran a group for single moms in the neighborhood – said she suspected postpartum depression.

“She was definitely a good mother to her children. All that devil stuff on the news, I didn’t know where you got it from,” Love told The Post on Friday. “She was a really good mother, but sometimes you break down.

“She tried to better herself, she told me I wanted to go to work, she started jobs and then quit,” Love said of Fleming. “It hurt to see it.

“[Post-partum depression] is real,” she added. “It can take forever. I don’t think she did it out of anger.

“When I found out about it, I almost didn’t want to be here anymore,” Love said. “I just couldn’t believe it. They were like my own sons.” Funeral for young Bronx brothers allegedly killed by their mother
