Winners of the 31st Annual Gotham Award was announced. Each year, the awards ceremony honors outstanding achievements in the fields of independent film and television. Daughter is gone took home four awards last night, dominating the film categories, while Squid fishing game and Booking dog won awards in the series category.

Daughter is gone won Best Picture, a great achievement for the screenwriter and director of the film Maggie Gyllenhaal, who adapted the novel by Elena Ferrante. The film follows a professor and their mother on a vacation whose encounter with another mother brings back haunting memories from her own past. Gyllenhaal also won two other awards, one for Best Screenplay and another for Breakthrough Director Bingham Ray, given to an outstanding director with their first feature-length feature film. Also win for Daughter is gone is an actress Olivia Colman, who took home the award for Outstanding Lead Performance for his role.

Frankie Faison also won Outstanding Lead Performance for his performance in Kenneth Chamberlain’s Death, based on a true story of a tragedy that occurred after a routine police check-up. Emilia Jones won a Breakthrough Actress Award for her performance in CODA. Her Companion Troy Katsur won the award for Outstanding Supporting Performance for her role.

For television, Squid fishing game won the award for Breakthrough Series (Over 40 Minutes). The series is made by a Korean writer/director Hwang Dong-hyuk, serving a scathing social commentary on the horrors of capitalism. Winning the Breakthrough Series (Under 40 Minutes) is Booking dog, created by Sterlin Harjo and Taika Waititi, about a group of teenagers living on a reserve in Oklahoma who plan to escape to California. Outstanding achievement in a new series has been awarded to two recipients: Soo Mbedu for her performance in Underground Railroad and Ethan Hawke because the The Good Lord Bird.

Kristen Stewart, Peter Dinklage, Jane Campion, and Eamonn Bowles All are awarded for professional dedication. The Icon Tribute Award is presented for the first time to poets, playwrights, writers, filmmakers, directors, civil rights activists and educators. Kathleen Collins. An Ensemble Tribute has also been given to the cast of Netflix The harder it is for them to fall which include Jonathan Majors, Zazie Beetz, Delroy Lindo, LaKeith Stanfield, Danielle Deadwyler, Edi Gathegi, RJ Cyler, Damon Wayans Jr., Deon Cole, Regina King, and Idris Elba.
