Every Friday, Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers shares information about four fugitives that authorities need help finding.
Anyone with information about these four is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-8477.
- Michael Haire – on the run in Collier County on drug and fraud charges
- Avra Kessler – allegedly trying to check for cash stolen from a local business
- Harry Misamore – wanted on a major burglary and stolen property count in Lee County
- Cody Shelton – a 30-time repeat offender on the run after his most recent pre-holiday theft
This week, we’ll start our list with a repeat offender who has committed all sorts of crimes over the past decade. Michael Haire is currently on trial in Collier County with six positive orders for violating probation on a variety of drug-related and fraud charges. The 57-year-old fugitive had been trying to dodge deputies since mid-December in hopes of keeping himself away from the familiar surroundings of his cell. Over the years, he has made dozens of arrests between Lee and Collier for grand theft, child neglect, domestic violence, battery, fraud, theft, and fraud/impersonation. Haire stands 6’3″, weighs 250 pounds and can be as low as North Naples or Golden Gate, able to work under a desk as a laborer or truck driver.
Next is a woman who was caught trying to check for cash stolen from a local business. New warrant for arrest Avra Kessler was released last week after she attempted to lure and hand over a bank teller with identification that was definitely not hers. Kessler gave the teller a check she wanted to cash, using a fake driver’s license and credit card as proof of identity. The teller had a hunch that there was something fishy about the transaction and examined the details a little more closely. Kessler quickly realized that the jig was up and abruptly left the bank empty-handed. The banker was able to flag a nearby deputy who was able to arrest the fugitive scammer before she could do anything. Kessler ended up behind bars for her role, and to add insult to injury, she was found with a bag of cocaine hidden in her bra. The 50-year-old offender has a history of shady behavior in Lee and Broward Counties and is known to have used a number of aliases, including Melissa James, Amber Treat and Avra Joseph. She’s 5’3″, weighs 160 pounds, and has several tattoos, including a frog on her left leg, “Rome” on her neck, a snake on her chest, and the word Sexy on her stomach.
Also on the run this week was a scammer who completely betrayed the trust of a guy who was just trying to offer him a job. New warrant for arrest Harry Misamore was brought in two weeks ago in connection with grand theft and trafficking in stolen property. The victim said he brought Misamore home to help with some work around the yard. But when the victim left, Misamore took the opportunity to break into the man’s home, steal tools, equipment, even a new air hockey table bought for the victim’s children. Within hours of the theft, Misamore was quickly pawning the stolen items at two different stores for just one cent on the dollar. Paper trails lead to Misamore, who was arrested but is now wanted for violating probation and failing to appear in court. Locally, he has 16 fraud, theft, drug and DUI bookings, as well as additional charges in Indiana for sexual misconduct with a minor, escape and exposure indecent, after being discovered almost naked on the church floor. Misamore was last known to live in downtown Fort Myers and after his arrest he will be held without bond.
And last, but not least, is a guy who has been booked 30 times and now, with your help, he will add another snap to his collection. Order bench for the arrest Cody Lee Shelton was brought out last week after he failed to appear in court following his latest burglary. He was arrested for shoplifting just before the holiday and locked up for a month before being released on condition that he appear before his court date last week. But when his name appeared on the charts, Shelton was nowhere to be found. So far, he has been charged with crimes ranging from drugs and fraud to robbery, battery and domestic violence. The first time he was arrested was at age 14 for grand car theft – two years before he could legally drive. He was also jailed twice for fraud and grand theft. Shelton is 30 years old, 5’6″, 180 pounds, with a tattoo of angel wings on his neck, the Superman logo on his chest and the words “First Family” on his arm.
