Fuel pump costs should be cut by 6p a liter, demand by driving groups

Driving groups say the price of petrol pumps should be reduced by up to 6p a litre.
And drivers are faced with ZIP Code Lottery – with fuel costs at the same supermarket chain varying by as much as 13p a litre across the UK, the AA has claimed.
It says the “lottery” is costing up to £7 more for a tank and wants more transparency on pricing.
AA bosses want petrol 3p a liter cheaper, while RAC rivals argue the cut should be up to 6p.
Pump prices are related to crude oil prices, has increased again recently.
But Costs drop before Christmas and the drop is largely invisible at the pump.
The average price of a liter of petrol is now £1.45 – which groups of drivers and The sun holds it down campaign wants to cut.
“While oil prices have risen in recent weeks, retailers have inflated prices by raking in an extra 10p in profits late last year, so gasoline remains too expensive,” said RAC’s Simon Williams.
AA points out that supermarket petrol is just 135.9pa litres in Northern Ireland, where a public agency monitors pump prices.
Spokesman Luke Bosdet, asked: “Is it a coincidence that pump prices are significantly lower when there is an official consumer watchdog actively monitoring them?
“In the rest of the UK, the Government and competition regulators have been unable to help motorists.”
He said price transparency in countries like Austria has saved a lot of money.
