Fox reporter Alicia Acuna reunites with her son after the Denver High School shooting

A Denver-based Fox News correspondent who covered Wednesday’s East High School shooting reunited with her son, a student at the school, in an emotional on-air moment.
Fox reporter Alicia Acuna spotted her son reporting live from outside the school after a student shot dead two faculty members there earlier in the day.
“Excuse me, my son just came up and I didn’t see him,” Acuna told America Reports mid-air.
The reporter’s son comes into view of the camera and the couple hugs tightly.
“I’m sorry I hadn’t seen my child,” Acuna said, getting emotional. “I’m so sorry, there was no way you would have let your child pass by.”
She said her son is fine and that he was the one who let her know that something was going on at his high school. He had texted her when police and emergency services arrived at the building.

“I was sitting at my desk working on another story and I started getting messages from my son saying he was in a congregation and all of a sudden there were cops everywhere, ambulances, the congregation was closed and cops guarded their door,” she said.
Acuna delivered her report as concerned – and frustrated – parents at the school.
The suspect, identified as 17-year-old Austin Lyle, was reportedly frisked daily by school officials over concerns about his behavior.
Lyle, who was found dead of an apparent suicide on Wednesday night, had shot and wounded just before 10 a.m. two faculty members who were searching him for weapons.
Acuna asked why the parents were unaware of the school’s daily Patdown programs.

“I had no idea, and a lot of other parents had no idea, that their kids went to the same school with other kids who were under a scheme who were being scanned because there was enough concern to do it on a daily basis,” he said she.
“When I asked why parents weren’t told this, the superintendent told me to protect the privacy of the people who were being frisked,” added the journalist and mother. “As a parent, my question is, ‘What about the safety and concerns that we have for all of our students?’ The frustration is enormous at the moment.”
