Fort Valley State University student shot in dorm room

A Fort Valley State University student was shot dead in a dorm, forcing the campus to go into lockdown Wednesday night, officials said.
Georgia College campus police responded to a single shot fired at a dorm just before 7 p.m., according to Fort Valley State University.
The unidentified victim was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and was described as being alert.
A reason for the shooting remains unknown as police are trying to determine if the student was shot by a suspect or if the shooting was self-inflicted, according to the Peach County Sheriff’s Office.
Fort Valley State University ended the lockdown just after 10 p.m., but more security officers remained prevalent on campus.
