Fort Bragg helps search for a fisherman who was swept away in the Cape Fear River

ERWIN, NC (WNCN) – The Search for a The body of a 25-year-old in the Cape Fear River in Harnett County will continue Tuesday morning with help from Fort Bragg, the sheriff’s office said.

The Harnett County Sheriff’s Office said Edwin Ordonez-Vasquez, 25, and Emilson Ordonez-Vasquez, 29, both from Dunn, were part of a group who went fishing by the river.

The group attempted to cross the river near the Erwin Park Cape Fear River entrance at 1002 S. 13th St. to get to an island.

While crossing, the brothers were swept away by the river.

Rescue teams found Emilson Ordonez-Vasquez’s body about 300 meters downstream.

The body of Edwin Ordonez-Vasquez was not found as of 9:30 a.m. Tuesday.

The sheriff’s office said Fort Bragg had a watercraft on the river Tuesday morning to assist in the search.

A K-9 underwater cadaver trial is also on site.
