Former Philadelphia Eagles star Terrell Owens speaks out on camera after a confrontation with his neighbor

PHILADELPHIA– NFL Hall of Famer Terrell Owens speaks about an argument he caught on camera with a woman in his Florida neighborhood.

Owens posted a video to his Instagram account on Thursday night of the heated exchange.

In the video, the woman says she told Owens to slow down while driving through the neighborhood. Owens says he wasn’t speeding and headed for his mailbox.

Owens kept his camera rolling as their back-and-forth continued with an officer at the scene.

In the video, Owens explained that the woman called the police and he told her he would wait until they came.

In addition to speeding, Owens, a longtime NFL wide receiver with the San Francisco 49ers, Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys, was also accused by the neighbor of almost hitting her with his car and molesting her.

In the video, the woman can be heard telling the officer, “He ran over the stop sign.”

“There’s no stop sign, what are you talking about?” says Owens.

The woman continues: “I asked him to slow down. He got out of his car and started harassing me.

Owens replies, “Right, because you’re going to yell at me and tell me I almost hit you, but I didn’t.”

The woman says, “But you didn’t have to get out of your damn car.”

Owens says, “You shouldn’t have talked to me like that.”

Then the woman made this statement: “You are a black man approaching a white woman.”

The Hall of Famer, nicknamed TO, spoke exclusively to Good Morning America about the incident.

“It could have been really bad. I don’t know where it could have gone if the police walked in and they basically took their word for something they said I (did) or what you have. We’ve seen it a lot of other times, too,” Owens said.

Owens shared his views on the racially charged statement.

“If the roles were reversed I’d probably be in jail right now or something of that magnitude, honestly. And just the statement that she made was obviously coming out of her mouth, the comments, exactly, it was, ‘A black man approaching a white woman, that’s pretty much what you want to know about the situation,'” Owens said.

In the video, Owens speaks to his camera and says, “I saw it. I’ve seen it. But that’s first hand… I saw it on TV. I’ve seen it on video, but I’ve never been a part of anything like it.”

Owens is now urging the woman to face consequences.

He retweeted a petition condemning her to prison for a false police report.

Owens believes accountability is important here, having recently seen other high-profile incidents of police being called to black Americans under dubious pretexts to do mundane things, like walking, napping, sitting in a Starbucks and even birdwatching.

In that infamous Central Park bird watcher case, the woman was charged with filing a false police report.

Owens says he is grateful for the way the police handled his situation.

“I just want to commend the Broward Police, those cops that showed up, because that could have gone completely to the left if they hadn’t come in and handled the situation properly,” Owens said.

ABC News reached out to the woman concerned for comment; she didn’t answer her calls.
