Football fans have sued Aston Villa after Manchester City pitch invasion

Two football fans have been charged following a pitch invasion at the end of Sunday’s Premier League match between Manchester City and Aston Villa at the Etihad Stadium.

Thousands of fans stormed the pitch after Man City were crowned champions but reports of violence marred the celebrations.

Greater Manchester Police said two men had been arrested and investigations were ongoing into reports that Villa goalkeeper Robin Olsen had been attacked by a fan.

Phillip Maxwell, 28, of Anzio Row, Knowsley, has been accused of throwing a pyrotechnic missile onto the pitch. He has been released on bail and is due to appear in Manchester and Salford Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

Paul Colbridge, 37, of Whitegate Drive, Salford, has been accused of stepping on the pitch. He was also released on bail and is due to appear in Manchester and Salford Magistrates’ Court on June 7.
