Football directors begin talks with police over fan violence after players attack on pitch in weekend shame

It comes after Leicester issued a lifetime ban on a man who ran onto the pitch and allegedly punched Nottingham Forest striker Keinan Davis during an embarrassing 4-1 FA Cup defeat at the City Ground on Sunday. Sunday.

Nottinghamshire Police said three Forest players were assaulted.

Cameron Toner, 19, of Leicester, has been charged with three counts of ordinary assault and entering the playing area during a football match.

He will appear at Nottingham Magistrates Court on 24 February.

Incidents include spectators entering the field, rockets being thrown, flares being set off and allegations of racial abuse directed at players.

Two Rotherham fans have been arrested and given a lifetime ban after Accrington’s Harry Pell was attacked by a pitch invader on Saturday.

A Premier League chief told SunSport: “This is a huge problem.

“We were predicting that one player would be injured.

“We also anticipate someone will be injured by flares.

“Thankfully, that hasn’t happened yet – but it will if this doesn’t stop.

“Fans will only claim to be banned for doing this.

“All of this needs to stop – and we’ll do everything we can to make sure that happens.”

Prem supremos raised the issue during their last meeting on January 26, when the clubs agreed to hold talks with the FA, EFL and the Football Policy Unit, which took place a few days later there.
