Florida teens face murder rape after 16-year-old pal is killed in drag race

A Florida teenage couple has reportedly been charged in the death of one of their young passengers in a drag race.

Austin Lewis, 17, and Kristopher Trenker, 19, began racing each other at speeds of up to 120 miles per hour on July 24, Tampa Police Department said.

Payton Fordyce, 16, was in the back seat of Lewis’ vehicle when Lewis suddenly swerved to avoid an oncoming car and crashed into a cement duct.

The vehicle rolled over several times, partially ejecting Fordyce, killing him.

Responding police said Lewis was intoxicated at the time, with a blood alcohol count of 0.08. In Florida, the impairment is 0.08 or higher.

Tampa Police arrested both Lewis and Trenker Wednesday after an investigation.

Lewis was charged with manslaughter while driving under the influence of alcohol and vehicle homicide.

Trenker is charged with vehicle murder, operating an unregistered vehicle and driving with a suspended or revoked driver’s license.

Fordyce’s shattered mother warned of the potentially deadly risks of drag racing.

“It’s a very pointless act and these kids should understand the seriousness of racing and speeding and not wearing a seatbelt. Even my son wasn’t buckled up and I don’t see why not,” mum Brittany Bunnell told Fox 13.

“We don’t have anyone now,” she said. “He was the only one. It’s just devastating that he was the only boy we had and he was taken from us.”

Last year, a Tampa judge sentenced a teenager to 24 years in prison for a 2018 drag racing accident that killed a mother and her child.
