JUPITER, Fla. – The adoptive parents of a 13-year-old boy are facing charges that the boy has lived in a garage in Jupiter since at least 2017.
The pair were arrested on Tuesday just nine days after a detective responded to a home in the Egret Landing community on January 30, according to the report. Jupiter Police Department.
Police arrived at the home to monitor the teen’s runaway investigation.
The mother, identified as 46-year-old Tracy Ferriter, let a detective into the home, who discovered a small 8X8 structure in the garage with a latch that locked from the outside, police said.
Further investigation revealed that inside the wooden structure there was a mattress, camera and bucket.
The mother told detectives they used the area as a small office or for storage.
Investigators found the 13-year-old boy at the school the next day and set up multiple interviews. An investigation determined that the teen had been physically abused and forced to live in the garage by the Jupiter couple for at least four years.
Tracy and Timothy Ferriter, 46, were arrested on February 8. Both are facing charges of kidnapping/falsifying a child, and aggravated child abuse.
