Florida lawmakers push to warn swimmers about pooping in public waters

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Some Florida legislators want your local health department to warn you about certain “companies” you’ll encounter while swimming in public waters.
The Florida Department of Health (DOH) has sent medical advice to local departments to post warning signs in public water locations that contain bacteria in feces.
Effective July 1, 2022, DOH will be required to notify a city or county if the department issues health advice against swimming due to elevated bacteria levels in public bathing areas, according to the report. Safe Waterways Act.
Present Florida’s Healthy Beach Program, the state department of health oversees some beaches and public swimming areas. However, it is not obligatory for any state or local jurisdiction to warn people before taking a dip.
