Florida caterer Joycelyn Bryant has been sued for serving marijuana-spiked food at a wedding

A woman who attended a Florida wedding is suing the event’s caterer, accusing her of serving guests food laced with “toxic” amounts of marijuana.

According to a lawsuit filed Monday, Virginia Ann Taylor-Svoboda said she suffered “serious, permanent injuries” after Joycelyn Bryant of Joycelyn’s Southern Kitchen Inc. reportedly allowed food to be infused with harmful amounts of cannabis.

Taylor-Svoboda’s lawsuit argues that she had no idea the wedding’s food contained marijuana, causing her to suffer from “marijuana poisoning.” She accuses Bryant of negligence and is seeking more than $30,000 in damages in her lawsuit.

“(Bryant) knew or should have known that allowing the food served by (Joycelyn’s Southern Kitchen) to have marijuana infused there was a high likelihood of injury and damage to wedding guests,” Taylor-Svoboda’s lawsuit reads .

On February 19, a wedding reception was thrown into chaos after officers from the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office arrived and found a guest complaining about feeling “high.” One guest told MPs he felt he had “drugs in him” after only consuming food and wine.

When authorities showed up, first responders were already treating several sick guests, and some attendees were taken to a hospital.

A female guest reportedly told officers the food was laced with marijuana. Another guest said he was feeling “sick and intoxicated” according to the report and wanted to press charges against those responsible for the possible tying up of his meal.

Samples of the food served at the event were sent to a laboratory for testing. Lab results showed that lasagna and bread tested positive for THC, an active ingredient in marijuana.

According to the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office report, Bryant was charged with violating the Florida Anti-Tampering Act, supplying marijuana and culpable negligence in April.
