FKA Twigs Explains Why She Opened Up About Shia LaBeouf’s Alleged Abuse

FKA Twigs has been reflecting on their decision to publicly accuse actor Shia LaBeouf of molestation.

The British actor-musician – real name Tahliah Barnett – filed a lawsuit against the in 2020 honey boy star for “relentless abuse,” including sexual violence, assault, and inflicting emotional distress, during what she described as a “living nightmare” relationship.

In February 2021, LaBeouf denied causing Twigs “any injury or loss” and said she was “not entitled to any compensation or damages of any kind.”

“Sometimes it can cause more trauma, and sometimes it can be divisive. People don’t expect you to stand up for yourself, but I did it and I’m proud of it, and what happened to me wasn’t right.”

Twigs’ lawsuit against LaBeouf will go to trial next year

Sistah Space’s chief operations officer, Djanomi Headley, told the publication that Twigs’ support has “created a huge snowball effect and given us the visibility needed to ensure the voice and perspective of black women affected by domestic violence to be seen and heard”.

The trial date for the Twigs v. LaBeouf case has been set for April 17, 2023.
