FAST-FOOD giant McDonald’s is taking breakfast and bagels off the menu.
But you don’t have to miss out on your favorite breakfast when you can cook for yourself.
Try these savvy ideas….
BREAKFUL BREAKFAST: Make your own by going to Aldi and grabbing a box of their breakfast sandwiches (£1.49 for ten) as well as their Oakhurst pork chop, £1.75 for six.
Take six eggs (79p) and fry together with a slice of chewy bacon, £1.79 per 14 slices and a slice of Emporium cheese (75p for eight slices). Then, wrap it all in one of their flour tortilla packets, eight in 49p.
That’s a total of £7.06 and you can make as little as six breakfast packs from those ingredients, so £1.18 each.
Note that the Maccy D’s are around £3.09 each, a saving of £1.91.
BAGEL BARGAIN: Marks & Spencer rushed to the rescue of those who would miss the Maccy D’s bagel breakfast.
They posted the recipe on their Instagram @markandspencerfoodpr this week and it has been viewed more than 120,000 times.
You need an M&S sourdough bread, baked and halved, two slices of cheese, an egg and sausage peeled and pressed into small pieces.
Fry pieces of cake and eggs and build. It depends on the size of the pack you buy but this still costs less than the £2.19 price of a McDonald’s sandwich.
ROLL DOWN COST: Greggs sausage rolls are the breakfast of champions, but there has been backlash since the chain pushed prices up 5p to £1.05.
Make your own using sausage meat inside a super cheap, pre-rolled pastry.
You can also pick up Aldi’s new Ambiano sausage roll maker, £14.99, which everyone will go crazy about.
But the fastest and cheapest way to make a roll of Greggs at home is to buy branded frozen packs in Iceland.
Get eight for £3.75 each for just 47p – save 58p on each roll bought in store.
BON PRIX: Prefer something a little lighter on the go?
Pret a Manger is famous for its croissants and buttery pastries, but they don’t come cheap.
A simple butter croissant is £2.15 but if you go to Tesco you can now buy the Pret-At-Home line of cakes for a pack of six for £3.
That’s 50p per croissant, so a huge potential savings of £1.65 each.
NO NEED TO UP: If you’re a Costa Coffee fan, you’ll also know that your daily spend can amount to as little as £2.50 per day.
Buy a Dolce Gusto espresso machine instead, now £34 off from £99.99 at Currys.co.uk and pick up a pack of Costa Dolce Gusto Compatible Caramel Latte 16 Capsules for £3 from Asda.
The payout now means a great long-term savings.
