First Lady visits tornado-hit Kentucky neighborhood

First Lady Jill Biden visited a tornado-ravaged neighborhood in Kentucky to meet with residents and local leaders

The Bowling Green neighborhood was among those hit hard by the December 10 tornado that tore through western Kentucky, killing 77 people in the state. Neighborhoods include Moss Creek Avenue, the street where 11 people died in the storm.

Jill Biden met with a number of residents along the street and then spoke at a rehabilitation center in south-central Kentucky.

“All around us there is grief for homes and homes being destroyed, for all the lives lost,” Biden said in a speech at the rehabilitation center. “It will take time to bring this whole beautiful place back to life. But what we have seen, what we have seen today, is there even faith here? And there is a lot of strength and there is a lot of hope. ”

President Joe Biden visited other parts of the state days after the tornadoes hit and promised that the federal government would be involved in the cleanup “for the long haul.” Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear has said clearing debris from major hurricanes could take until April and cost tens of millions of dollars.
