DENVER (KDVR) – Aurora violent crime is on the rise higher than in other major Colorado cities, and more of that crime is gun-related than at any time in the past decade.
Aurora has experienced four famous mass shootings in the past two weeks with a common theme – teenagers holding guns.
According to Colorado Bureau of Investigation data, 49 percent of serious assaults in Aurora this year involved firearms.
This is at least a ten-year record. The rate of serious gun-related assaults in Aurora has more than doubled since 2015, when it was only 23%.
More serious attacks, which are the largest part of Aurora’s violent crimes, are also on the rise. They have nearly doubled since 2017, sending the city’s overall violent crime rate up with them.
