WASHINGTON, DC — A former FBI official testified Thursday that he was “100% confident” that a campaign attorney for Hillary Clinton denied he was acting “on behalf of a particular client” when he since turned over information that had been debunked Connect Donald Trump and Russia.
“I think it was pretty close to the start of the meeting. Part of his introduction to the meeting,” James Baker, former General Counsel of the FBI, told a federal jury in Washington, DC.
The testimony directly supports the only charge against defendant Michael Sussmann as a result of Special Counsel John Durham’s investigation into alleged FBI-related violations of the law and Robert Mueller’s investigation into alleged Trump-Russia ties.
Sussmann, 57, stands trial for lying to the government September 19, 2016 at FBI headquarters with Baker.
“He said he wasn’t acting on behalf of any particular client,” Baker recalled.
“He had worrying information about an apparently covert channel of communication between Alfa Bank, which he said was linked to the Kremlin in Russia, and part of the Trump organization in the US.”
Baker added that he was “100% confident that he said that at the meeting.”
