Darren Ambrose says Nottingham Forest star Brennan Johnson will be a “fantastic signing” for Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham.
The former midfielder thinks Brennan Johnson is “one of the fastest players” in the Premier League.
There is a chance the Nottingham Forest star could leave his youth club before transfer deadline day, with Ambrose believing the potential £50m transfer fee he is facing is ‘not a lot of money’ in the footballing world, as he said The show broadcast on Sky Sports.
After an optimistic and unbeaten start to the new Premier League season, Tottenham were eliminated from the League Cup by Fulham on Tuesday.
That has dampened spirits in the Spurs camp but signing some players ahead of Friday’s transfer deadline day would certainly change that.
And when Ambrose found out Johnson could potentially join Spurs, he was delighted as he also revealed he played with the 22-year-old’s father.
“I really like Brennan Johnson,” Ambrose said. “I think he’s fantastic. He’s only 22. I actually played at Ipswich with his father David. It makes me feel extremely old.
“He’s going to hate me for saying that. But I think Brennan is a better player than his father and he was a fantastic player.
“But the pace he has. He must be one of the fastest players in the Premier League. He is not an equal replacement for Harry Kane. We know that.
“He’s more of a winger. But I think you can fit him into role number nine. It’s blasé to say £50m isn’t a lot of money. But in the crazy world of football, that’s not so much. I think that would be a fantastic signing for Spurs.”
Johnson would be successful at Spurs
In Postecoglou’s new attacking system, Johnson is someone who can thrive and help a team that’s off to a strong start to the new season rise.
In addition, it puts pressure on players like Richarlison as it is hinted he does not want to start against Fulham on Tuesday.
But it’s an added quality in the forward areas for a team that will do anything to blow up everyone in the Premier League.
