Fans were soon stunned by the sudden departure of OU trưởng head coach Lincoln Riley

NORMAN, Okla. (KFOR) – Head football coach Lincoln Riley is leaving the University of Oklahoma.

The bomb announcement on Sunday that he would was the next head coach at the University of Southern California.

“As a student, as a football fan, I’m not a huge fan of it,” said student Ben Thomas. “I love Lincoln Riley. I think he’s done great things here.”

Riley has been the OU coach for five seasons, 55-10, with four Big 12 championships and three College Soccer League semifinals.

Surprise, sadness, and confusion are just some of the emotions many students are feeling on the campus of OU.

“I was quite sad because before coming to Oklahoma, I was a freshman, I had heard about the amazing things Lincoln Riley had done, so I was really shocked to see him leave,” student Ahmed Diallo said. “So I won’t be able to see him the OU coach again, which I wanted to see before coming here.”

The news of Riley’s passing came as a one-of-a-kind blow to students on campus.

On Saturday, they lost a Bedlam game close to Oklahoma State. Then, Sunday, they learned about Riley taking over as head coach of the USC soccer team.

Student Mitchell Orcholski said: “It will be difficult to see him go. “It was a tough loss yesterday, but I wish him the best and I’m looking forward to seeing who we pick.”

Some student fans, such as Ben Thomas, are currently focused on the future.

“I’m really surprised by this move, but if I were the organizer, there are a lot of great head coach candidates out there, Luke Fickell, Brent Venables and even Bob Stoops,” he said. . “There are so many great options out there and they really need to hire a professional here. The OU also really needs to figure it out quickly. ”

“My time at OU has included some of the most special years of my life and the lives of my family. I have so many great memories and so many great friends that we will carry with us forever. I’m incredibly proud of so many things we’ve been a part of – success on the pitch, success off the pitch, the players. Proud of the staff. Proud of how we have worked so effectively with our university and governing body. We were able to have two extraordinary leaders, Presidents Harroz and Joe Castiglione, and they are everything I could ask for in this role and beyond.

Leaving OU was probably the hardest decision of my life. OU is one of the best college football programs in the country, and it’s been around forever. That won’t change. It won’t change in the SEC, it won’t change with another head coach. It has stood the test of time and it will continue to do so. This is a personal decision purely based on my willingness to take on a new challenge and I feel this is the right opportunity for me and my family to do so.
“We will leave here with good memories. It will be difficult to say goodbye to Norman, but it will always be part of our family, our history. I will be an Early fan as long as I live – a fan of this state, of this university and the people here. I love them all so much.”
