Family mourns man killed in angry Sacramento I-5 shooting

The family of the man killed in a highway shooting is mourning a beloved father and grandfather. Acramento county coroner’s records show Lufino Mejorado, 60, as the dead man. You can always, always count on him to be there for you in your time of need. “Bohanna said her father is a retired corrections officer and he is also a veteran of the United States Army. .Bohanna said what makes this terrible tragedy even worse is the fact that she lost both her cousin and grandmother earlier this year. “It was heartbreaking, Bohanna said. Her children were heartbroken too. The Highway Patrol said David Perry, 33, had been arrested in connection with the deadly shooting. “We felt robbed that he was taken from us, it was just a senseless and selfish act of violence,” Bohanna said.

Bohanna said she wants her father to be remembered as a loving and kind person.

“He is a family man,” said Bohanna, “He will help you in any way he can. You can always count on him to be there for you when you need him.”

Bohanna said her father is a retired correctional officer and he is also a US Army veteran.

“He dedicated his life to serving others,” Bohanna said.

Bohanna said what makes this terrible tragedy even worse is the fact that she lost both her cousin and grandmother earlier this year.

“It added salt to a very, very new wound. It really hurt,” Bohanna said.

It was a heartbreak that her children also felt.

“It just makes it more painful for parents trying to explain to their kids why we can’t go see Grandpa for Christmas,” Bohanna said.

The California Highway Patrol says it has arrested 33-year-old David Perry in connection with the deadly shooting. He now faces murder charges. Officers said the road rage incident began around 2:15 p.m. Monday near Interstate 80 and Watt Avenue.

Both vehicles involved continued to drive west before departing southbound I-5, the CHP said. As they reached I-5 near Richards Avenue, Perry pulled over next to Mejorado’s car and opened fire.

“Have we come to a society where little cranks are your excuse to kill someone?” Bohanna said.

Court records obtained by KCRA 3 also show that Perry did not deny the dispute in 2007 for carrying an illegal loaded firearm.

The Mejorado family is still grappling with the loss. As they continue to grieve with a heavy heart, Bohanna said she wants the community to learn from what happened.

“Become greater,” said Bohanna, “Don’t give in to your feelings.”

Perry is scheduled to appear in court this Thursday, according to Sacramento County jail records.
