Family discovers live frog in organic spinach wrap

A Michigan family was surprised to find a live frog in an unopened packet of organic spinach.

“My daughter was screaming, she was like, ‘Oh my god, that’s a frog,’ and I was like, ‘What?'” Amber Worrick said WJBK-TV. “Thank God I didn’t eat the frog.”

She spotted the animal — which turned out to be a Pacific tree frog native to California — camouflaged in the leafy greens and still moving.

Worrick bought the pack of Earthbound Farms organic spinach from Meijer supermarket in Southfield – and didn’t notice anything unusual about it.

“I didn’t see anything, didn’t feel heavy,” she said. “I didn’t feel any shaking.”

After making the unexpected discovery, she returned the spinach to the store and received a refund — and also brought the frog, which was moved to a new home by its staff.

Earthbound Farms’ parent company, Taylor Farms, issued a statement apologizing for the slip-up.

“The packaging says ‘washed three times’ or something like ‘washed three times,'” she said. “I don’t think it was washed or they would have caught a whole live frog.”
