Speaking about the incident, Man United boss Ralf Rangnick said: “As far as I know, there is some investigation going on from Leeds United.

“I don’t think anything happened in the end. Anthony Elanga looks good and he’s happy to have scored his goal.”

“Obviously things like that shouldn’t happen and the more I think about it, the more I should play this game. The atmosphere is great.

“Sometimes we have to cool things down on the pitch a little bit but this is what I did when I stepped on the pitch (in a late melee phase). I didn’t want anything to happen – no yellow cards or no good. Red.

“In times like these, I think it’s important to try and cool things down.”

Elanga grabbed United’s fourth goal, getting justice for himself as well as killing the game.

After sliding the ball below Illan Meslier, Elanga ran to the back of goal, placing a finger to her lips before ending the celebration with a knee slip.

Leeds left-back Junior Firpo also came on with Elanga with a powerful challenge, causing some shoving and shoving from both groups of players at the end of a messy game.
