‘Excellent’: Media overwhelmed by Leeds United’s £7m international player

Ethan Ampadu moved from Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea to Daniel Farke’s Leeds United in the summer transfer window and his performance for Wales against South Korea on Thursday night will certainly encourage Elland Road fans.

Leeds United signed Ethan Ampadu from Chelsea in the summer of 2023.

Ampadu, who can play as a centre-back or as a defensive midfielder, initially cost Leeds £7m (The London Evening Standard) in transfer fees.

The 22-year-old failed to make much of an impression at Chelsea, but he has already started to make an impression at Leeds.

The Wales international has played five times in the Championship and twice in the EFL Cup for Leeds so far this season.

Praise for Leeds United’s summer signing of Ethan Ampadu for Wales against South Korea

Ampadu has been deployed primarily in the West Yorkshire club’s defensive midfield so far this season, but has also played in central defense.

Against South Korea for Wales on Thursday evening at the Cardiff City Stadium in Cardiff, Ampadu started in midfield.

The game ended in a goalless draw.

WalesOnline raved about Ampadu for his performance.

While rating his performance 7 out of 10, the report noted: “Excellent in the middle of the park.”

“Fighted brilliantly and interrupted the game at crucial moments. A really enjoyable trip.”

Ethan Ampadu could thrive at Leeds

During his time at Chelsea, Ampadu was unable to get enough opportunities in the first team.

The 22-year-old has been loaned out to RB Leipzig, Sheffield United, Venezia and Spezia.

Now that Ampadu has moved to Leeds on a permanent contract and is playing regularly, he could be back to his best and continue to develop as a footballer.

The fact that the youngster has played almost 50 games for Wales shows how good he is and the potential he has.

And he’s only 22 now.
